Nickelback the “Unredeemable”

Nickelback is often considered to be the most hated band on the internet, but despite the negative reputation, they have achieved significant commercial success and are respected by many for their musical talent and songwriting ability. Despite the criticism they have received, Nickelback has remained popular, selling over 50 million albums worldwide and continuing to tour and record new music. Funny enough I actually don’t know anyone who doesn’t like them outside the joke of the internet hating them. So when i got the call to go to Vancouver to shoot them for a very special cover video i didn’t flinch.

Of course we are talking about doing this last minute and during the final week leading up to christmas. I wish that was the hard part but just getting to Vancouver turned out to be an adventure.

First I was in SF at the time with family. We were already planning on leaving the Monday but now had to early enough for me to get home, get my passport, pack, and get to the airport. Luckily there was a flight at 8pm that night so I had time for delays but i was not expecting the delays i ended up dealing with. First getting to LA was smooth as planned but along the way my flight got delayed. At first it was just by 30 minutes or so and i figured it would recorrect. By 5pm my flight went from 8pm to 930pm. Not a big deal but soon it snowballed into 11:30pm because Vancouver was getting hit by a snow storm. I talked to the gate agent about getting my bag and trying to switch to a different flight and was told by 9pm they would know if the flight was getting canceled. This was 8pm. At 10:30pm we still weren’t canceled, the flight in Vancouver had been sitting on the runway for 3 hours, and our new takeoff time was 2am. We knew it was getting canceled but they still wouldn’t. I finally give up and had booked an 8am flight as a backup. I go to get my bag so i can sleep in my car but Westjet, the company doing the flight was closed at the baggage area so i had to come back at 3am… Just as i was leaving i ran into an employee who said the flight just got canceled and said everyone’s bag was coming down. That took another 30 minutes and then I was told to rebook my flight. I wanted to get the refund so i waited in line but after 45 minutes of not moving i decided the credit card company could deal with it because i was going to bed.

I got to my car at 12:15am and after sitting for 20 minutes my phone goes off telling me my 8am flight was also canceled. I end up rebooking for a 12:55pm flight and decide i’m going to sleep at home. I drive home from LAX, pop a Nyquil so i would pass out, and fall asleep at 2am. At 5:30am i get woken up by production telling me my new flight was canceled and i needed to get to LAX for a flight at 7:45am to fly to Seattle and drive up to Vancouver with the director. I knew i wouldn’t make it in time so suggested Burbank and at 5:40am i was out the door to catch at 7am flight. Made it with plenty of time and flew to Seattle. We had another flight from Seattle to Vancouver if it would happen but didn’t hold our breath. Vancouver International ended up canceling all flights that day so we drove to Vancouver. Thankfully the roads weren’t closed and I had no problems with 4 wheeling it in the snow.

And that’s how we got to this amazing redemption music video for Nickelback. It was a cover of the song “Unredeemable” from the christmas film, Spirited starring Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell. I hope you all enjoy it because we had a blast making it.
